The New Britain Council of Catholic Women (serving the towns of New Britain, Berlin, East Berlin, and Kensington) recently held their annual scholarship banquet at the Baltic restaurant. The council presented six, $500.00, scholarships to deserving middle school and high school students. The recipients from left to right are Isabella Calcagni, Jack Kurnik, Patrick Kennedy, Devin Basdekian, Matthew Peterson, and Emily Olis.
Congratulations to New Britain Council of Catholic Women's own Maryanna Smialowski for being awarded the Saint Joseph Award. Maryanna's home parish is Sacred Heart of New Britain. This award gives testimony to Maryanna's countless volunteer hours for her parish but she is also a tireless worker and supporter of all the Council's activities. The New Britain Council of Catholic Women is extremely proud to be a part of her life.
A very special thank you to all who participated in the Caps of Love, a service project of the National Council of Catholic Women. In August, 350 pounds of caps were collected at Sacred Heart Church in New Britain and shipped to the Caps of Love Processing Center in Lake Worth, Florida for sorting. From there they were shipped to the Blue Grass Recycling Center in Kentucky for recycling. The money raised is used to purchase wheelchairs for disabled children. The 2015 goal for Caps of Love is to refurbish and donate 30 plus wheelchairs to children in the United States.
Thank you again, Maryann Smialowski New Britain Council of Catholic Women
